Multi-item packing and 3D fit
Box Packing Calculator
Check whether multiple rectangular items can fit into a box. Enter the dimensions of the box you have and the items you need to pack. CartonVista uses its packing engine to find and independently verify a placement arrangement, then displays the result in 3D.
This is a geometric packing tool, not a shipping-protection certification. Finding a verified arrangement does not prove it is the globally optimal one.
Interactive packing calculator
Can these items fit in my box?
Enter the inside dimensions of your box and the sizes of the items you want to pack. The calculator checks actual rectangular placements, not just volume.
Packing result
See what actually fits.
Try the sample: one 20 × 20 × 20 cm box with eight 10 cm cubes. The result will report verified placements and show a 3D view.
Partial plans clearly identify any pieces left unpacked.
Method
How to use the box packing calculator
- Measure the internal length, width and height of your available box.
- Enter each distinct rectangular item's dimensions and how many pieces you need to pack.
- Select whether each item can rotate freely, must remain upright or must keep its entered orientation.
- Enter how many identical boxes you have and calculate. Review packed and unpacked item counts before using the 3D view.
If the plan is partial, the arrangement is verified for only the items actually placed. An unpacked piece does not necessarily prove that no other packing arrangement could fit it.
Worked example
Eight 10 cm cubes inside a 20 cm box
A box measuring 20 × 20 × 20 cm inside can hold eight 10 × 10 × 10 cm cubes in a 2 × 2 × 2 arrangement without gaps. Enter the prefilled example and click Calculate box packingto view the verified result.
A mixed-item example is more challenging because empty volume can be unusable. Two items might have a combined volume below the box's volume yet still not fit together in any permitted orientation.
Limits
What does a verified packing result mean?
Each displayed placement has been checked for box boundaries, overlap and the selected rotation restrictions. The underlying solver evaluates feasible arrangements but does not exhaustively prove the best possible number of boxes or the maximum items that can fit.
This quick calculator does not automatically allow for cushioning, inserts, product fragility, weight or crush limits. Measure the protected item and usable box interior if allowances are necessary. For larger orders and additional packing controls, use theBusiness packing workspace.

Frequently asked questions
Box packing calculator FAQs
Can I pack different-sized items in one box?
Yes. Add up to five rectangular item types with quantities, then check their placements against the internal dimensions of the box.
Why might items remain unpacked?
The specified boxes may be too small, available quantity may be insufficient, or this baseline search may not find a layout that fits every piece. A partial plan is not proof of impossibility.
Can I rotate items?
You can allow any of the supported right-angle orientations, restrict a product to upright placement, or lock the entered orientation.
Does the calculator include protective packaging?
No. Enter the dimensions of already-protected items and usable inner box dimensions. The tool does not certify shipping safety.
